Consumers who have a tight budget should research the market before they spend their hard earned cash on meat. There is nothing more frustrating than going to a different place just to buy chicken.
Aldi’s just-the-basics-at-ultra-low prices business model has some people wondering if they really can get everything in one place, including their steaks or drumsticks.
Is Aldi Meat Good In 2022?
Aldi meat has a variety of quality depending on how it’s made. Although their Black Angus beef products get high marks, customers are not satisfied with the quality of their chicken or turkey products. Aldi still offers quality meat at reasonable prices even without an in-store butcher.
We’ll explore where Aldi buys their meat and how it compares to other meats.
Which Aldi Beef Is the Best?
Aldi’s USDA Choice meat and Black Angus beef consistently earn high marks.
USDA Choice, a U.S. Department of Agriculture designation, is used to identify meats that meet very high-quality standards. In fact, Choice’s quality is only surpassed by Prime.
Black Angus beef gets certified when cows fulfill specific genetic requirements. Also, their hides should be at least 51 percent dark (hence the “Black Angus” name). Their juicy and well-marbled meat is what makes them so popular.
Aldi has a better deal: their USDA Choice Black Angus USDA Choice Bottom Round Roasts come in at $4.49 per pound. Giant Eagle’s Certified Black Angus is $7.99 per pound. It’s a difference of more than $3 for comparable and high-quality meat.
Their organic grass-fed, grass-fed ground meat is another popular item. It’s a product that many people don’t know they can even find on cooler shelves. Simply Nature organic beef offers incredible value for only $5.49 a pound.
Aldi’s organic whole chickens and their bison meat (sold in limited quantities as an Aldi Find, so not an Everyday product) also receive rave reviews from shoppers.
What Aldi Meat is Worst?
Not all Aldi meat is equal, particularly if you are used to eating butchers cuts.
Aldi’s chicken breasts/thighs can be seen under the Kirkwood name.
Personally, I know that such items may need to be trimmed after being unpacked.
It’s pretty annoying, especially if you’re trying to get dinner on the table fast.
A Redditor story that has made the rounds also cites Aldi’s ground turkey as a hassle – the shopper said she had to pick bone shards out of it.
Aldi’s ground meat in general can leave a budgeting shopper wishing they had paid just a little more. A few people complained about the overground beef, which can cause a crumbly texture or “mealy” texture.
Aldi’s ground Beef is my go-to ground beef.
If you’re used to very high-quality beef from a local or regional cattle farmer, that has been processed and ground by a butcher who knows his or business, you will not be impressed by Aldi’s.
Is Aldi Meat from Where?
As we have covered, Aldi sources its meats from some surprising places.
Aldi’s beef includes cattle from nearby or regional farms. Aldi beef products are likely to come from nearby farms.
This is an excellent practice not only for small-to medium size cattle farmers, but it also benefits the environment.

Aldi does source some of its meat internationally, including its grass-fed all-organic ground beef, but any meat that comes from a country other than the US must declare its origins on the packaging.

Aldi’s meats are either excellent or poor depending on the kind of product you get. Even meat that isn’t on the “awesomest” side of this scale can still be of decent quality. So, I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy meat from Aldi if it’s not.
Is Aldi Meat Safe?
Aldi likely offers USDA Choice meat. This is the second highest grade and generally has less marbling. It also has less flavor and more juice. Aldi is unlikely to have the finest steak if you are looking for steak.
