8 Myths About Root Canals

8 Myths about Root Canals 1 – A root canal treatment is a painful procedure False. The root canal is painless. In fact, root canals are performed to relieve pain caused by inflammation of the pulp chamber (where the nerve is located) or a dental infection . The majority of “pain” is caused by neglecting to visit the dentist. This can cause the infection to worsen and affect other parts of your mouth.

2 – A root canal removes the pain immediately after the procedure False. The patient should feel a significant improvement after undergoing a root canal. However, it is normal for the tooth to be sensitive the first few days after treatment and the use of pain relievers can help. It is possible to feel mild pain while you chew, which can persist for several weeks. The pain will usually disappear after a while.

3. Root canals don’t work True. Although no one can completely replace your tooth, a well-done root canal, with a crown or filling, is very likely to succeed. Treatments can last for a lifetime in about 85% of cases.

4 – Some teeth may still feel sensitive even after root canal treatment. A root canal procedure can cause persistent pain for several months. There are two things that can cause persistent pain: hidden canals left untreated or broken teeth.

5 – A root canal “kills” the tooth False. A root canal is a procedure that cleans out the tooth and allows it to heal. In the pulp chamber, there are nerves and blood vessels which were involved in tooth development as children or teens.

6 – Teeth undergoing root canal treatment often need a crown True. Teeth that need root canal therapy have either large or complex fillings. An increased risk of fracture is associated with large-sized fillings. Your dentist might recommend that you place a crown and a post after a root canal procedure.

Some dentists place a post and a filling on a tooth right after the root canal has been done. A crown can be used to strengthen the tooth, even though the post is stronger than a simple filling.

7 – Root canal treatment takes several appointments. Root canal treatment can be completed in as little as one hour if it is not complicated. The severity of the root canal and its number depend on what condition it is in.

8. Whenever a tooth has had a failing root canal treatment, it should be extracted False. Root canals usually succeed with a rate of about 85%. Root canals can be performed if the root canal was done many years ago.

Everyone is professional and dedicated to deliver the best. I am sorry, I don’t remember all the names of the wonderful staff. Some of the names of the wonderful team members I remember I would like to mention like : Dr. Bains, Alex, Anna and Rupa. I have been going to Angel Care Dental since I was a young child… so quite a while 😉 and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The facility is beautiful, the care and gentle touch mean everything to me because I don’t like going to the dentist – who does? But it’s different here and I leave feeling genuinely happy. Mihaela is the BEST hygienist and Dr Galo is kind and extremely gentle. Even a root canal isn’t half bad with Dr Galo! Dr Soraya is also wonderful! Thanks Angel Care. ☺️ – Tara H
