Safeway is a well-known store for their flexibility. They offer several ways for customers to save on purchase, have friendly store associates and a large selection of groceries.
Safeway customers can return or exchange most merchandise provided they retain the receipt. Customers must also be able to show the receipt when returning items to the original store they purchased. Non-perishable, perishable, and perishable merchandise can all be returned.
Without a receipt can I return grocery items to Safeway?
When making returns, Safeway does prefer that customers have their receipt. However, customers who do not possess their receipt can opt to exchange it for an even amount.
They may request a refund if the associate at the counter is unable to locate the transaction by computer.
However, if they are unable to locate any proof of purchase, Safeway will instead put the refund on a Safeway Gift Card.
The store manager can approve cash refunds if the amount requested for a refund is not more than $5
Are there any time limits on Safeway’s returns?
Safeway does have no company-wide deadline for returning products. Instead, each customer’s return is dealt with on an individual basis depending on which product they are returning.
Managers at stores will decide what is a reasonable time to make a return.
The time they grant for non perishables may be longer than those for meat and other produce.
Because of the uncertain return period, it is recommended that customers return all purchases as soon possible to receive full refunds.
Is there a charge for returns at Safeway?
As 2022, Safeway does not charge customers for making returns or exchanges.
Customer who asks for an exchange or return has to provide a receipt. If they have a receipt, the company will give them a full refund or even trade.

The Safeway nearest to where the product was purchased is allowed for customers to return it. You cannot return items to Safeway locations that you have not purchased from.

Which products does Safeway not accept for returns?
Safeway will accept all products back, but currently they don’t accept any alcohol or baby formula.

Can I Return Items to the Safeway Starbucks?
Safeway Starbucks accepts returns on all cups, packages of tea and coffee as long as the items are unopened and returned within 30 calendar days.
Although customers are technically not allowed to return any crafted drinks, Starbucks will make the drink completely new for them if it was improperly prepared.
They will usually require customers to dispose of the previous drink themselves, as they cannot generally take back drinks that have been handed out. However, this may vary per kiosk.
Safeway Starbucks asks customers for a receipt to be processed as a return. Not all kiosks can look up transactions from the past.
Also, certain kiosks can grant store credit as a return if the customer has not received a receipt. The rules may vary by kiosk.
Starbucks gift card are eligible to be returned, provided that the receipt is from the original transaction.
Clearance items can also be returned or exchanged provided they do not have the final sale sticker.
Are Safeway Pharmacy able to accept returns?
Safeway cannot take returns from retail customers. Items purchased in the pharmacy section, such hygiene products and other items must be returned to customer service.
However, according to a Safeway pharmacy in British Columbia, Canada, they do have their own disposal service for medications prescribed that have either expired or have ceased to be used by the patient previously taking them.
Safeway pharmacy is unable to reimburse their customers for medicine that they have returned.
Does Safeway Canada Have a Different Return Policy?
Safeway’s return policy for Canada is identical to the US.
Safeways Canada doesn’t sell alcohol like US shops. They do not have a return policy for alcohol.

You can only return something to Cvs once without receiving a receipt.
Returned items without receipts may be exchanged with the exact item, or given store credit. For such returns, a refund may only be given if the item was returned at the lower price during the 60-day period. The right to refuse or limit returns without proof of purchase is also possible.
