Amazon.com, its marketplace sellers and others will now ship some items to a postal box starting in 2022. Many products cannot be shipped to post office boxes because they are often using carriers that do not deliver to them. Amazon customers can use General Delivery addresses and other methods to get their packages.
While it can increase the chance of packages being lost, Amazon customers with PO boxes use general delivery addresses to successfully receive their products.
Like a PO Box you can pick the package up at your local postal office. Be sure to show identification.
Here’s how to format the shipping address when shopping on Amazon; be sure to use uppercase letters for “General Delivery”:
The USPS Service was established to help individuals who frequently travel or do not have mailing addresses but still wish to receive mail.
To obtain parcels, however, you can use the card at any location other than your house or office.
However, it is important to confirm the acceptance of General Delivery packages with your post office before you use this option.
If this method makes you nervous, consider sending items to a trusted friend or relative with a street address.
The UPS Store is another option.
You can send Amazon Products to Amazon Locker locations, if you do not want the item sent to General Delivery.
Amazon Lockers operate in a manner similar to a PO Box. In that a compartment is kept for retrieving an item, the Amazon Locker works the same as a PO Box.
This service is also completely free, and you can find it at 1,000 locations across the US.
Amazon Locker offers additional benefits, including the availability of many locations 24/7. The product can be picked up within 3 days.
What’s the deal with Amazon not shipping to PO boxes?
Amazon currently uses UPS and other independent contractors for many of its items. However, it does not deliver PO boxes according to the website.
FedEx and shipping companies are also affected. Although Amazon no longer uses FedEx for shipping, many marketplace sellers still use its service.
Amazon chose UPS and independent contractors to deliver many of its deliveries because they are financially sound.
Smaller, lighter packages usually cost the least, but heavier items are often transported by other carriers at a lower rate (especially those that weigh more then a pound).
Amazon allows for a few exceptions. You can get replacement phones or upgrade your post office box within five business days. On the other hand, you’ll need a street address to purchase a mobile phone for a new line.
Additionally, if you want to order medications for delivery from Amazon Pharmacy, be aware that this service completely excludes PO boxes.
Any prescription drug can only be obtained from a qualified street address.
Does Amazon Prime Ship To PO Boxes?
Amazon Prime subscribers who own a Post Office Box may be eligible to receive some benefits of membership, including free shipping.
Amazon Prime can cover most PO Boxes in the Continental United States by selecting eligible marketplace sellers and buying directly from Amazon.com.
At the same time, Prime members with PO boxes don’t qualify for Amazon Day or release-date deliveries. Sometimes you may need to be patient.
When customers provide this mailing address, the retailer will downgrade Prime orders to standard shipping.
Does Amazon Ship To PO Boxes In Puerto Rico?
Additional restrictions may apply if you live in Puerto Rico, or if you wish to gift someone living in the U.S. territories.
Amazon can serve some of the PO boxes in the island but not all. When you go to checkout, the Amazon website will inform you if the address you entered is eligible.
Amazon has no priority or expedited delivery options available for Puerto Rico Post Office Boxes.
These products are not allowed to be shipped. Puerto Rico has a 70-pound weight restriction for packages being sent.
Which Stores Deliver to PO Boxes
An alternative is to buy the same item from a different company. Many retailers limit delivery to boxes just as Amazon does. This is why some stores don’t offer two-day or overnight shipping.
Nevertheless, certain companies provide PO box delivery of any item:
Other stores will ship some types of merchandise to PO boxes. It’s likely that you will have greater success ordering smaller items.
Target ships products to certain addresses, such as those that don’t exceed a specified weight limit or measure. To determine if an item qualifies for shipping, check the information in “Shipping”, under “Item details”.
Post office boxes are not available from some retailers because of their dependence on FedEx or UPS.
These stores include Staples, Sears, Big Lots, and Dollar Tree. Each company offers customers an option to purchase items online and pick them-up at the store closest to you.
Amazon ships a restricted number of products to the post office box, so that is what it comes down to.
It is still possible to place an order online using either a commercial shipping centre, general delivery address, street address, and a retailer that will deliver any merchandise to a PO address.
