This disturbing and potentially alarming revelation comes from TikTok. TikTok is where many oral health professionals have posted videos recently confirming an old rumor about the ability of dentists to detect if you have had a specific sex organ removed.

Huzefa Kapadia posted a video showing how dentists sometimes can tell whether a patient had oral sex with a penis-having companion. This is due to something called palatal Petechiae. It’s bruising of soft-palate which can happen when oral sex is frequent and aggressive. According to Kapadia it is not likely that a single or more oral sex sessions would cause the sign. However, if a patient likes to eat many, many, several, multi-colored lollipops at once, then there might be a problem.

While these aren’t meant to say your dentist can make up deep details about your sexual history, they do suggest that an oral injury could be considered in the event of someone complaining of undiagnosed or unusual mouth symptoms. “Those working in the area of head and neck medicine should consider fellatio as an addition to the differential aetiology of intraoral petechiae,” a 2013 case report concluded The observation of petechiae in the mouth could be the result of several non-fellatio related causes, as well. It is also inaccurate to claim that dentists can diagnose oral sex. If a dentist examines the patients and combines their medical and sexual histories, they may be able to diagnose fellatio related injuries. “Because the fellatrix or fellator may be unaware of the etiology of the lesions or may be reluctant to provide these details of the sexual history,” the 2013 case report argued , “the clinician needs to have a high index of suspicion based on the patient’s clinical presentation and collaborating history of preceding fellatio.” Because there are several causes for petechiae in the mouth and because most acts of fellatio do not leave marks, the claim that a dentist can tell if you have or have not performed oral sex on a penis is “Mostly False.” Those caveats aside, some acts of fellatio could potentially be detected by a dentist when observations of lesions are combined with a patient’s own medical and sexual history.

We know that dentists are often dreadful for many reasons. This shouldn’t be another reason why you delay getting checked out about your cavity or gum disease. It’s not easy to remember to care for ourselves, even though we are terrible parents. It’s not that big a deal.

Is it really that important for a physician to know if you recently gave head? HIPAA prohibits them from saying anything. But, you are an adult. If it is causing serious health issues, such as oral lesions, then they will not discuss the matter with you.

Another option to lifestyle change is to not eat sand for 5-7 days prior to your dental visits twice each year. It’s more difficult for some people than for others.

But, be honest. Do what feels right for you.

I have been going to Angel Care Dental since I was a young child… so quite a while 😉 and I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
