The smokestack is available in two different configurations, which gives it some customization options and the opportunity to do things differently.

Z Grills’ 450B Pellet Grill has everything that you would expect from a pellet barbecue. You don’t need to be an expert to make it work. Z Grills is being considered by some to be the Traeger killer. (Traeger being the world’s largest pellet grill manufacturer) Z Grills offers solid equipment at an affordable price. It was exactly what I expected. It did not hold heat as well as my Masterbuilt. The digital display also seemed slightly inaccurate compared with my thermometer. Although I do not want to criticize that as all grills are subject to hot and cold spots, it was still very good. Although it doesn’t offer Wi-Fi connectivity like the Masterbuilt at all, this connectivity is more of a burden than a luxury sometimes. Although it does not claim to be able to reach 700 degrees it still works well as an oven and grill. This is the best pellet grill under $500.

Charbroil Digital Electric Smoker failed to perform. The interface on the vertical smoker was tough to use and the app was predictably buggy. Temperatures fluctuated more than any of the other smokers and the smoke from the wood chips just didn’t measure up to what I got from the larger wood chunks (as Randolph noted these issues aren’t particular to the Charboil, it’s something that is likely an issue with many electric smokers of this style).
