Performance of the Pressure Washer

I’ve been using the new Ryobi 3300 PSI Honda Pressure Washer for the last couple of months on several home maintenance projects. It has been used to remove Lichen moss from siding and mildew, as well as algae and mold off concrete patios and decking. The compact dimensions and light weight of the pressure washer were immediately apparent from the moment it arrived in the package. It’s a great plus that the Honda motor works, since I have always loved small Honda engines.

It starts quickly and runs smoothly. It would be great to have a bigger gas tank. One tank of petrol will provide the fuel for about 45 minutes to an hour. One a large project like these I found myself refueling more often than I wanted to stop and take a break.

Ryobi 3300 PSI Honda Pressure Washer is used for cleaning the siding. Because lichen can be difficult to remove, the pressure of 3300 PSI worked well. Combining the pressure with the 40° nozzle made it work great.

Ryobi’s 18-foot pressure washer extension was also helpful in reaching higher siding. The extension is really helpful for washing siding and reducing the need for a ladder.

Note: Pressure washing siding is a very important process. Vinyl siding should not be washed at an angle that allows water to seep behind. This siding is protected by a rainscreen and well-sealed building wrap to prevent any water damage.

Cambara hardwood was the next thing I did. As can be seen, the decking was covered with algae and mildew. It is possible to cause damage by pressure washing wooden decking. This pressure washer was used at a 40 degree angle and was held 8 inches from the deck. It removed all of the dirt and buildup, without any damage to the wood.

The mildew was also removed from the stamped concrete patio that surrounds the pool. It did an excellent job, and the surface was not damaged.

Which stores can you buy?

Ryobi Pressure washers can only be purchased at The Home Depot.

They can be ordered online through Amazon.com.

In the past, we have visited 3 Home Depots to see the Ryobi inventory. However, only 4 were available – 2 gasoline and 2 electric – the rest require that they be ordered in advance. Which is no big deal just worth mentioning.

Amazon has many of these options. Some are however sold out occasionally.

What About Cordless Pressure Washers?

Recently, several companies released cordless washers. Small models, rated at roughly 750 psi and below, have been available for a while, but these new washers look to be competitors to the full-size electric models, boasting pressure numbers of 1,000 psi or more. These washers come with portable water sources and provide pressure washing that is completely untethered (although they are also able to hook up to an extension hose). This could appeal to larger people, or to anyone who wants to carry their pressure washing equipment on the road in order to wash a car or boat. In early 2021, we tested the Ryobi RY40PW01DG9 40V 1500 PSI Cordless Pressure Washer , and although we saw a lot to like about it, this model had a number of limitations that kept us from recommending it for general use.

These two 40-volt cells are supplied with the Ryobi cordless washer. You can use one, however it has a less efficient run-time. As for the power, Ryobi refers to the washer as a 1,500 psi model, but it actually has a running figure of around 1,000 psi. You can get it to 1,500psi by using its “boost button”. After that, it will cycle back to 1,000psi for 8 minutes. Once eight more minutes of normal use have passed, you can re-use the boost mode. For a better idea of its run-time, it was tested with two 1,000 psi batteries. The test lasted for about 33 minutes.

Although the Ryobi cordless model has decent cleaning power, it will likely have trouble with difficult tasks. We managed to remove some light mildew from the side of a house with little issue, but getting the grates clean on our grill was beyond the capabilities of this tool. We were able to do that with the Ryobi Top Pick and De Walt runner-up. Very high build quality is the Ryobi RY40PW01DG9. The compact design makes it easy to transport. The telescoping luggage handle makes it easy to haul the unit around and to lift the machine onto the back of a truck or up to a storage shelf.
