The average American household doesn’t want to spend too much on groceries. Although it’s easy to do, you should not overspend on groceries.
Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?
Aldi does not always sell at a lower price than Walmart. Aldi stores have outnumber Aldi by 2 to 1. Walmart has reduced the price of many Great Value store brands. Aldi can sometimes be a little more expensive than Aldi, although the differences are usually very small.
Let’s break down some of the most popular and common grocery items and see what happens when the two go toe-to-toe.
To keep this simple, I followed a basic methodology.
Aldi’s and Walmart’s prices are subject to slight variations depending on where they live. Aldi doesn’t have an online price list except Instacart. In that case, it can add up. I used the Aldi price guide as well as receipts from the previous year.
Walmart.com had the following information: The address, and consequently the prices, were for a small town in the Great Lakes region.
The only thing I did was compare popular grocery products.
When no other option exists, items are compared by price per ounce or pound, or I noted the weight difference.
A final disclaimer. Prices may change at anytime in any location. Although I tried to be accurate, the price listed is only a snapshot and not an official price list.
Aldi seems to be able to beat Walmart at a large number of produce prices.
Aldi is a store that claims to get new produce every day.
*Note, Tyson is the only comparable brand of pork loin sold at Walmart.
Aldi has a clear advantage over Walmart in all aspects of meat prices.
Note: Only Thomas brand bagel thins are available at Walmart
Because Walmart does not carry their own bagel thins brand, I used the Thomas brand to substitute. Walmart’s bagel thins are not as popular as if they had their own.
In all but three categories here, Aldi’s bread prices win the day.
Aldi’s specialty, flavored Ice Cream is almost unfairly compared with Walmart’s Prices, as Walmart does not make its own.
Aldi can save you up to two dollars on this product. They are extremely popular.
Walmart is still competitive in the rice and pasta category. Aldi’s instant white rice rival is also a strong competitor.
If you are a regular rice eater and have access to a rice cooker, buying a bag of Jasmine Rice from Aldi will save you money in the long-term.
Walmart is a great place to save if your family loves Triscuit knockoffs and chips. Aldi has been the winner of every category of snack here.
Walmart’s raw honey pantry category is the one that Aldi charges more than Walmart. However, this doesn’t surprise given Aldi’s post WWII history as an artisan grocer providing basic supplies for countries rebuilding from disasters.
Aldi has the lowest prices when you want to buy condiments or oils.
Aldi offers a low price for essentials if you’re a baker.
The 50 cent box of baking soda is the most impressive item, a full 32 cents cheaper than Walmart’s already wallet-friendly price.
Aldi is a better choice than Walmart for dairy products, although they can change quite frequently. Walmart has a slight advantage on butter prices.

Aldi is not always cheaper than Walmart, but that shouldn’t discourage shoppers. Aldi has a lower price per cart if your goal is to cook seafood.
Walmart stays competitive, though, with their Great Value store brand, and if you also need non-grocery items – office supplies, clothes, video games – you won’t do too badly to just make the one stop at your local Walmart Supercenter.
Aldi’s is Cheaper than Walmart
Both Aldi and Walmart offer their store brands for less than name brands, but Aldi comes out a little cheaper. Walmart has five more bags than Aldi’s, but it still comes down to the price per bag.
Is Aldi That Much Cheaper?
Although everything in the store seems cheap, it is actually quite expensive. Reader’s Digest reveals that there are a lot of Aldi products which tend to be more expensive. Aldi is unable to stock many brand names, so expect to pay a little more.
Walmart price matches Aldi?
