Wayfair’s home goods eCommerce website has been gaining popularity thanks to superfast shipping, positive ratings and reviews, as well as detailed descriptions and product descriptions.
Walmart is the most popular general retailer worldwide, just like Wayfair.
How does Wayfair and Walmart connect?
Some sources claim Wayfair was the first to capitalize on Walmart’s opportunity for online commerce to challenge Amazon.
Wayfair purchased furniture and other home products on Walmart’s web site. The brand gained access to Walmart’s huge customer base.
This was supposed to have occurred in 2015. I cannot find much more information beyond what appears online.
He claims that “…Wayfair also handles problems with Walmart orders.” But, I haven’t found any evidence.
Wayfair no longer sells items in Walmart’s Marketplace.
For the time being, however, this “connection” between Wayfair & Walmart looks more like an internet myth.
There was also a connection in 2017. Forbes.com featured an article in 2017 about Wayfair’s failure to sell out Walmart.
It wasn’t a response to Walmart saying they are interested but an analyst suggested that Walmart purchase the home goods retailer.
However, the author stated that Walmart’s acquisition or merger with Wayfair could hinder Wayfair’s growth. Walmart, however, would not be able to integrate.
The link between Wayfair, Walmart and Wayfair is therefore more fiction than truth.
The two seem to have diverged so much in their target market and business model that connections between them will probably not exist in the future.
Who Does Own Wayfair?
Walmart isn’t the owner of Wayfair. Instead, Wayfair remains with the original founders back in 2002.
That would be Niraj Shah and Steve Conine, who started the furniture sale business out of Boston, Mass.
Shah holds the CEO position, while Conine and Shah share the Chairman role in the company.
Is it possible to return Wayfair products to Walmart
Walmart and Wayfair may sell identical, or even similar items, but you can’t return Wayfair products to Walmart.
The two are completely separate companies, with completely different leadership, and Walmart is not the parent company to Wayfair.
Even if you had purchased a Wayfair item on Walmart’s Marketplace, returns via that avenue are not initiated with Walmart.
Instead, get in touch with the individual seller regarding returns and refunds.
Walmart is incredibly accommodating with returns, which is a shame.
My experience with Wayfair’s returns is that it’s expensive (you pay for the return shipping, not them) and in some cases, completely unmanageable.
Hopefully, that is one area in which Wayfair will look to Walmart’s superior customer service and learn a thing or two.
Walmart Prices Match Wayfair?
Walmart doesn’t price match Wayfair.
Secondly, even if Wayfair were selling items on Walmart’s Marketplace and you saw one that looked exactly like an item on Walmart.com, it would be exempt.
The reason is that Walmart stores only price match with lower prices on Walmart.com or Jet.com.
Additionally, Marketplace merchandise is not covered by Walmart’s price-matching policy. It would also be the only location where Wayfair goods could be sold, even if they were related (which they don’t).

Walmart doesn’t own Wayfair and has never owned it. While some Internet sources claim that the two are connected, no real data exists to suggest that there has ever been any partnership.
Wayfair already has an excellent ecommerce platform in place, so it is unlikely they will accept an offer from Walmart.
