Arizona (currently the only state with statewide RMP coverage)

Additional states might also be considering RMP, so this list could grow in future.

However, this program is not available in all states at the moment. EBT is not allowed in restaurants all over the country.

Subway in the Restaurant Meals Program

Subway appears on the approved list of fast-food outlets in the RMP list. These states include Rhode Island, Arizona and California.

Look out for the Subway knife-and fork logo if you’re in one of the participating states. It will indicate whether Subway is accepting EBT.

What if you can’t buy food cooked with your EBT card?

Generally speaking, an EBT card is reserved for non-cooked foods. This means that the approved food list is lengthy and can include items such as:

Produce such as fruits and vegetables

Dairy products

Meat and fish

A few bottled drinks

Food-growing seeds and plants (e.g. cucumber seeds, plants).

You cannot purchase the following items with your EBT.

Beverages such as wine and beer are alcoholic.

Tobacco products such as cigarettes

There are also non-food options such as cat food and dog food.

Vitamins, and other medicines

Eat in-store food

Pre-prepared food and hot food
