GMB is what I’ve always found to be successful so I continue to buy that.
My 4.0 was purchased a Flow Kooler waterpump back in 2003ish. The pump was $120 and had an impeller with a metal plate attached. But I decided to get it because i enjoy upgrading things. Soon after, I purchased the $25 GMB to repair my old water pump. I was shocked to see that it had the exact same casting as my GMB. Flow Kooler only riveted a small plate onto the impeller to add $100.
The GMB high performance water pump also exists, however it is often criticized for not fitting because it hits the block. While I’ve never used it, I believe it comes with a riveted plate to increase the coolant flow. The Flow Kooler came with a thick gasket as well as a regular one. It was stated in the instruction that the impeller should hit the block if it does so, to either use the thicker gasket (or both). My jeep did not experience interference so I used the thin regular gasket.
The GMB pumps have this weird machined out area where the heater hose pipe comes out that is filled in with a aluminum plate and they are the only ones i see made like that and i have replaced a lot of 4.0/258/2.5 water pumps.

Gates does not make water pumps. They repackage the old ones and then sell them to their customers. GMB has a low price, however the reviews are consistently good. I wouldn’t let that scare me. It seems like a quality product. There have been no failures and Flow Kooler signed it. It still works 15 years after I put it in so that must mean they are doing something right. GMB will soon be replacing the water pump in my dodge ram.
I experienced a water leakage in my Comanche 89 with 2.5 horsepower. I went to my local mom and dad parts store, and they sold me whatever brand was in stock. I got it home and went to put it on and the holes were all drilled wrong and it was clocked to far to one side and the inlet hit the block and the power steering bolt holes were noticeably off. They gave me another, and I put it on. It lasted for approximately 2 weeks.
I was at home when my engine started cooling. Then, one day, as I was finishing up something in the garage, I hear water splashing. It was the worst water pump seal I have ever seen. The ground started to gurgle before it stopped. These pumps were poorly constructed. Just by looking at their castings and the machine work, you could see that they had been badly made. Once I had it reassembled, I never experienced another problem.

Is Gmb water pumps of good quality?
Have used GMB water pumps in the past and found them to be high quality replacement pumps. Every aspect of this replacement pump looks fantastic. It features a cast of high quality and an impeller identical to the original AISIN-brand pump. (AISIN, a huge OEM parts provider to Asian manufacturers),
