The Skinny

Ameda Purely Yours, a revolutionary company who created a breast pump that was copied by many other companies, is the inventor of the Ameda Purely Yours electric breast pump. It has been out of date for a while, however it’s now better than some of the current pumps. The pump performed reasonably well, placing in the middle of all test categories.

Ameda Purely Yours Ultra, February 2015 Update. The Purely Yours Ultra reviewed by us (below right), isn’t currently available. One major difference in the Ultra is the addition of a faux-leather tote bag and an additional set of flanges. Additionally, the Ultra also has 3 power sources, including a car adapter. While the Purely Yours review had only the AC adapter, the Ultra comes with three power sources.

Einar Egnell (a Swedish engineer) founded Ameda in 1970. His clever approach to breast pump design soon led to other similar products entering the marketplace. The pump we tested was adequate. However, the mixed opinions of users made us curious enough to try it ourselves.

This pump received a rating of 5/10 for efficiency. It produced a comparable amount of milk as some of our other pumps, but not in the same amount of time as our higher scoring pumps. The setup was not as easy as we expected and it took some time. We also had to double-check the instructions.

Consistently operating dials can prove difficult.

Credit: Micah James Purely Yours scored 4/10 in comfort. Although the pump has a dial to adjust suction strength and force, it’s difficult to know exactly what settings are being used. It created a stern tugging effect on the breasts which we found to be very discomforting. Some testers complained that their nipples hurt after using the pump. Your milk may take longer to come down if your body is stressed or in pain.

Ease-of-use This pump scored in the middle because it was simple to use. The lower score is mainly due to the set up taking a little longer, as well as the amount of time we spent fumbling with the dials. They are difficult to use and can require extensive manipulation in order to attain the right suction. It also has a unique suction style which requires that you put a lid on the pump adapters prior to connecting them to the tubing.

Who Is This Breast Pump For

This lightweight and compact breast pump is clearly designed for working mothers. The breast pump also works well for stay-at home mothers who want to produce extra breast milk.

Even though I was able use my breast pump at the beginning to start my breast milk supply, this breast pump doesn’t seem powerful enough to be used for exclusive pumping. Ameda Elite, a hospital-grade model would be preferable to a private pumping mom.

Ameda PurelyYours is a compact breast pump that can be used in both breast and tummy. It has simple but powerful features.

The highlight of this breast pump is its ability to control suction and cycling speed independently.

It is less appealing to use because it lacks distinguishable suction levels/speed levels, and does not have a let-down function.

Even though I said all that, let me also mention that there are many mothers who love their Ameda pump. More Ameda Purely yours reviews can be found here.

What Is The Ameda Purely Yours Ultra Breast Pump?

Ameda is a well-known brand that has stood the test of time. Einar Egnell from Sweden, who was devoted to the welfare of breastfeeding mothers and started Ameda more than 80 years ago. The creation of the first effective and comfortable breast pump took Einar Egnell many years. Also, he was the one who created the cycle and vacuum standards today that are used to assess breast pump quality.

Ameda has remained true to Egnell’s standards, and still offers innovative breast pump options to mothers.

Ameda Purely Yours Utilities The Ameda Purely Yours Ultra pump appears to show some of this. The pump is decent and very affordable. It is lightweight, has multiple breast shield sizes for a more personal fit, and comes with a not-so-unattractive tote bag.

Ameda is also very pleased with this Pump because it is Closed System. The pump has a barrier that separates the milk collection container from the tube leading to the motor. A closed system pump is easier to sanitize and eliminates the risk of mold growth from any moisture that may seep into the tubing or motor.

Despite some positive features, Ameda Purely Yours reviews are mixed. While I love a lot of the features on this pump, it’s not the most efficient. If you are a mother looking for an affordable pump that can be used occasionally, this may be the right choice.

Ameda Onehand Manual Breast Pump Review

For review purposes, I was given this product for free. My opinions, and my breast milk are mine alone.

Since giving birth to Little Miss Cub, I don’t have enough hands. I need to be able to cuddle Little Miss Cub, hold her, give him a book, help him with his homework, check my iMessages and answer my phone.

Since I made so much milk while I was breastfeeding my big brother Cub (who drank very little), I decided to donate milk for Calgary Mothers Milk Bank. Ameda One-Hand Manual Pump (Ameda) has allowed me to have approximately 32 ounces of milk. I had liquid gold to spare for children in desperate need when I began pumping just a few weeks ago.

This pump is very easy to assemble, clean, and use. The following information is contained in the packaging:
