Westlake Tires Review – Perhaps the best low-cost tire brand

There are always cheap tires on the US markets. Most are worthless garbage. They’re not very quiet or comfortable, won’t work well in snow or wet conditions and don’t last long. There is a problem with this: you won’t be able to tell which tire is better. It’s nearly impossible, especially since nobody tests these tires.

It’s true! We want to cover every tire brand you can buy in the US, including the budget once. One such brand is Westlake, which comes from China. It actually operates under Zhongce Rubber Company. In 2019, it was the tenth-largest tiremaker worldwide. It’s true, folks, China is the number 10 tire maker in the world. They continue to make more each year.

The company does sell most of its brands to China. The reason is that China’s market has increased demand for tires as more people purchase vehicles. Zhongce is the only company that has its own R&D Department. Most cheap brands coming from China don’t have that, and as a result, the tires are unsafe on most surfaces.

It’s unlikely that you will experience this with Westlake Tires. Of course, its father company doesn’t use the newest and most advanced technologies, but at least it tests the tires in various conditions.

So how does Westlake tire perform against premium brands from France (USA, Germany), Japan (Japan) and Japan (USA, Germany, Japan etc. Let me answer that in this Westlake tire reviews.

Here’s how I do it: First, I review all the Chinese products, then give my overall thoughts. Every tiremaker is different, so I’ll share Westlakes. Let’s get started!

Can They Be Any Good?

This article will concentrate on the RP18 truck and car tires, as I form my opinion regarding Westlake Tires.

Based on what I’ve read, and what you’ll read below, Westlake tires are an exceptional tire for the price. The tire is a basic, good tire. However, one thing stands out from the many tire reviews about it. It’s not just quiet. Westlake tires are extremely quiet across its entire range.

ZC Rubber is a tire manufacturer for industry, and has done so since long before the production of passenger cars tires. ZC Rubber is an expert in light truck and truck tires.

As a matter of fact, most Westlake tires I’ve seen have been on trucks of all makes and models, from a Ford F-150 to a Nissan Frontier.

Westlake Rp18 Radial Tires

The RP18 is described by Westlake as “engineered to provide unmatched performance year round and value in its class.” The all-season touring tread has four circular grooves that are mated with numerous lateral siping. This allows for optimal wet and steering performance, handling, and control. This symmetric tread design allows for longer tread wear and supports tire rotations.

You can fit these small car tires in many Honda Civics.

The RP18 is reviewed by Mavistire. These tires are very quiet, even more than I was using before. They did not have any problems last winter. All four tires are Westlake.” “I have a 10-year-old car that I was going to have to drive to JFK from Smithtown in the near future, during rush hour both ways. So I wanted some good rubber for safety. This was my first time taking the trip every day for over a month. I was happy with its performance. These tires are excellent at an affordable price. The price you pay is not the only thing that matters. It was a reasonable price for tires that would get me about. These tires are not high-performance, but they do the job well enough to get me around. The RP18 will not provide Ferrari level grip, but it is sufficient. RP18’s work in all weather conditions, including snow or rain.

Westlake Sl309 A/S tires

Westlake advertises the SL309 as The SL309 is an all-purpose, heavy duty performer for your light truck application. M+S’ all season tread design includes open shoulders and circumferential grommes which help to disperse water and debris. Meanwhile, lateral siped tread blocks enhance traction performance when driving on asphalt, gravel and dirt roads. A robust, steel-belted design provides excellent treadlife with heavy duty load hauling construction.

Here are a handful of reviews on this tire, again, via MavisTire.

They were much cheaper than big brand tires and I purchased them for my F-350 dumptruck. Great tire with aggressive tread. They are great for hauling heavy loads and have excellent traction in snow. “They are smooth and comfortable to use. Looks good on my Ford F350 dually, good price.” “I drive an 8000 lb. Chevrolet Step Van. The Westlake Tires provide a firm ride. No shake no shimmy. The tire appears to be very durable. I am not sure about wet handling or winter traction because I am in Phoenix. We will see how things develop over time, but for now it seems to be working well.

Over the years, tire manufacturing has seen a great deal of change. Although tires didn’t exist in those early days, there was a lot of innovation in the tire industry. There was a handful of tire brands in those days, which wasn’t a problem because there weren’t too many cars. It’s now been over a century since then that things have changed.

The world is different now. There were more tire brands as cars grew. The options today are much more varied than they were in the early 1900s.

There are generally three kinds of tires available: the premium, middle-range, or low-cost. You can see that each one has a different cost and performance. The cheaper tires perform the worst.

If you’re looking for the worst tires brands, I have an article on my blog. The article listed several tire companies who made dangerous tires. Westlake was the name of a company that appeared on this list. Considering where the brand ended up means that the brand produces terrible tires. Even though that is true and I would advise you in most cases to avoid them, Westlake has one or two positive sides, which some people may find attractive.

I won’t lie about how cheap I think I am of low-quality tires. I will review Westlake, as well the various models of Westlake tires.

Westlake Tire Models

However, what Westlake lacks in quality it makes up for in quantity. But I am not talking about the volume of made tires. Westlake makes tires for passenger cars, including SUVs and light trucks, and tires for commercial vehicles, busses, and tractors. The brand has several models for each category, but my focus for today will be the passenger car options.

Westlake has ultra-high-performance, touring, winter, and off-road tires, depending on the size and application. There are several options for every category. You can have a new tire for any occasion with this wide selection of choices.

Westlake doesn’t have every model I could cover so I will only focus on the most well-known models. I’ll leave out drifting. Westlake owns a drifting model as well as tractors and buses.

Let’s get to the reviews.
