Software, Performance and Battery Life

Samsung’s OneUI Skin is well-known at the moment. But in case you haven’t used a Galaxy phone since TouchWiz: it’s fine. Samsung’s range of apps (the calculator, gallery, and dialer) aren’t as elegant or sophisticated as those from Google. Samsung also has a few settings menus that can seem a little confusing. OneUI’s overall design is well-thought out and sophisticated. The experience isn’t slowed down by any irritating quirks, which I found acceptable during my time using the A21.

It is filled with unnecessary software. Facebook, Amazon apps, Microsoft apps, two weather apps, and no fewer than four music streaming apps all come preloaded, among others. Boost Mobile itself also had its way with my review unit, stuffing it with junk like a “secure Wi-Fi” utility which costs an extra $2 a month to enable, as repeated notifications will remind you. I don’t know if there is an unlocked version of this phone. And, it seems that most other carriers have similar policies.

Image Gallery (3 Photos) With the Mediatek Helio processor on A21 and 3 gigs of RAM you wouldn’t be surprised that it’s not very responsive. I found multitasking a little tedious, though it didn’t frustrate me much beyond the occasional occasion when an app might take too long to open. The device struggles with the heavier titles, like Asphalt 9 Legends. But simpler games like Mario Kart Tour perform just fine.

I have a solid battery. In two days of mixed, sporadic use, I got about five and a quarter hours of screen time. The time spent on gaming, 4G video streaming and photo editing, as well as idling over nine hours at night, is really remarkable.

Do You Think The Samsung Galaxy A21 is a Good Deal In 2021

Short story: Samsung’s high-end phones get most of the attention. However, Samsung also offers many lower-cost options. While it wasn’t a groundbreaking choice in affordable smartphone space, the review last year concluded it was still a great option if your performance and budget requirements were met. It is possible that this is still the case today. The A21 smartphone is an average low-end phone. Although the internals are powered by a MediaTek CPU, three gigs of RAM and don’t have much power, they do well enough for web browsing and basic mobile banking tasks. Even lighter 3D games run fine. The A21 is capable of running lighter games and multitasking. Samsung promises to offer four years worth security updates for this phone. This is similar to many top-end models. It can also be had for as low $150, but its actual price is around $250. These updates are not provided every quarter but they do come quarterly. However, your phone is still guaranteed to be secure for the long-term. What has changed, though, is the landscape around the A21. While we don’t know anything about a direct sequel to the A21 in the form of a hypothetical Galaxy A22, Samsung just announced a bunch of new A-series phones coming to the US this spring, including the Galaxy A12.

Still, the A21 is an acceptable phone for a reasonable price with a large display.

For $180, the A12 matches the A21 spec-for-spec in a lot of areas for a lower MSRP: same MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, same three gigs of RAM, same 6.5-inch, 720p LCD panel (although with a teardrop instead of a hole punch), and similar camera setups. However, the A12 has a 25 percent bigger battery than the A21. This model also has a sleeker design and features a matte rather than the fingerprint-prone, glossy plastic of the A21. Be aware that it does not include NFC technology for making contactless payment through Samsung Pay and Google Pay.

A32 Galaxy A32 for $280 is worth a hundred more than A21. It’s got 5G, a 90Hz display, a better CPU, one gig more RAM, a higher-resolution primary camera, 64 gigs of storage (compared to 32 in the A21 and A12), an in-display fingerprint scanner, and it launches with Android 11 all for only $30 more than the A21’s MSRP. NFC can be used, however it is not like the A21. Image Gallery (1 Images) The downside of each of these two alternative picks is availability. An unlocked Galaxy A21 can still be bought from several retailers. The A12 and A32, however, are only sold through T-Mobile, Metro Cricket, T-Mobile for the A32, and AT&T to the A12. An unlocked Galaxy 21 is a better option than an A12 or A32 if you don’t have any of these carriers.

Samsung Galaxy A21S Review: Design And Key Features

It is as attractive in design as Samsung’s most recent products. Sure, it’s made of plastic and it isn’t sandwiched between protective layers of glass, but the Galaxy A21s is a sleek-looking phone with minimal screen bezels and an unobtrusive hole-punch notch in the top-left corner.

With the four LED flashes and cameras arranged in a clean rectangle in its top-left corner, the back of this phone is slightly curve. The phone’s centre also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. This can be used for unlocking the phone or authorising contactless payments. The selfie camera also allows for face unlocks.

With its oil-slick iridescent finish, the review model we received was in the black colour. All three colors – blue, white, and black – create a rainbow effect and each one looks better than phones this price.

A USB C charging port powers the Galaxy A21s. It’s located at the bottom of your phone and flanked with a 3.5mm stereo jack and speaker grille. There is a volume rocker on the right and a power button to the left. You can also find the shared microSD tray (which holds cards upto512GB) and nanoSIM on the left.

Samsung Galaxy S21S Review: Performance and Battery Life

The Galaxy A21s is powered by Samsung’s homebrew Exynos 980 chipset, with a maximum clock speed of 2GHz, backed by 3GB of RAM. This is our first review of a phone using this processor. It appears to be used mostly in Vivo smartphones, most of which do not make it to UK.

Performance-wise, the Galaxy A21s just about does the job, but you will find faster phones for the price. You can’t expect the same speeds as its Qualcomm and MediaTek-based rivals, but the Galaxy A21s rarely felt unresponsive or sluggish. It can take a while to boot up and sometimes lingers on the lock screen for too long after successfully unlocking, but that’s about it.

The graphics processing situation is similar. While the Galaxy A21s narrows the gap slightly it still falls behind others. Although the screen’s resolution is lower, it does improve performance. I did not notice any issues with less-demanding games like Stardew Valley or Gris.

Note: Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 didn’t pass the GFXBench testing. The Galaxy A21s are a treat for those who care about battery performance, which is a far greater metric than I think. In our standard battery-rundown test, where we set the screen to 170cd/m2, switch on flight mode and play a looped video, the Galaxy A21s lasted 22hrs 48mins. This phone lasted more than five extra hours than Realme 6.
