Introduction

The long-term use of probiotics in nutrition and human health has been documented. Most of today’s probiotic strains were isolated from the gut bacteria. Bacterial intervention in large intestine could result in modulation of microbial fermentation activity, and directly affect colonic epithelium (to alter/suppress innate immunity). These mechanisms might be responsible for the probiotics’ effect on functional and inflammatory bowel disorders.

The intestinal microbiota might be altered by probiotics, which can limit intestinal bacteria growth (IBO), and increase the production lipopolysaccharides(LPS).
