About RCMP Heritage Centre

Saskatchewan, Canada, has a history museum. The Heritage Centre, which opened in 2007, recounts the narrative of Canada’s mounted police force from its beginnings in the early 1870s to the present day.

The statuesque structure of glass, stone, and concrete, designed by world-famous architect Arthur Erickson, houses numerous state-of-the-art exhibitions and displays highlighting the mounted troop’s history.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Heritage Centre (French: Centre du patrimoine de la GRC) is a law enforcement museum in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. A variety of exhibits and artefacts related to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) may be seen in the museum. Nick Milkovich Architects designed the 6,000-square-metre (65,000-square-foot) history centre, which is located at the northeast end of the RCMP Academy, Depot Division. The RCMP Heritage Centre was built to replace the RCMP Centennial Museum, which was also situated in Depot Division, in 2005. In May 2007, the RCMP Heritage Centre opened its doors to the public.

The RCMP Centennial Museum, the first museum dedicated to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, opened to the public in 1933. The Centennial Museum, which was located at the RCMP Academy, Depot Division Regina Saskatchewan, was subsequently closed to the public in October 2006. The RCMP Heritage Centre was created to replace the Centennial Museum, with the Centennial Museum’s contents being transferred to the Heritage Centre after it was completed. In 2005, work on the RCMP Heritage Centre started. On May 23, 2007, the facility was formally opened to the public.

The facility is located south of Dewdney Avenue, next to “F” Division headquarters at the RCMP Academy, Depot Division in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, in a 6,000-square-metre (65,000-square-foot) structure.

The structure, which was completed in 2007, was reported to have cost C$ P3 Architects acted as the architect of record for the project, with Nick Milkovich Architects acting as the design architect and Arthur Erickson serving as a design consultant. PCL Construction was hired to construct the structure. Concrete, glass, Tyndall stone, and limestone mined in Manitoba were among the building components used to create the historical complex. The building’s massing was created to seem as though it were sinking and rising into the landscape. The ceiling of the structure is reminiscent of windblown snow or encampments utilised by the First Nations North-West Mounted Police in the nineteenth century. The building has a “swooping” rooftop, with a roof height ranging from 9.1 to 19.8 metres (30 to 65 ft). The building’s northeast exterior includes 21 oval-shaped columns ranging in length from 9 to 17 metres (30 to 56 feet).

A lot of the artefacts in the institution’s collection are from the former RCMP Centennial Museum’s collection.
