Medicaid And Dental Care

Medicaid is a health insurance program that offers free or low-cost coverage to low-income families and individuals. It is funded by the federal government and individual states. It is the responsibility of the federal government to determine which healthcare costs will be covered. However, each state is responsible for providing dental care for adult patients.

Medicaid covers anyone under the age 21 and can get most dental services, regardless of their state. It provides a wide range of benefits, including EPSDT for children, which stands to stand for Early and Periodic screening, diagnosis, and treatment. A Medicaid dentist can help a family find a dental professional for their child.

The extent of Medicaid-funded dental services available to adults depends on their state. Center for Health Care Strategies, Inc. has a detailed chart that lists each state’s Medicaid dental benefits.

Some states have generous benefits classified as “extensive.” These usually cover preventative care such as exams and cleanings, diagnostic and restorative care such as x-rays and fillings. These benefits might include crowns and other services such as extractions.

The “limited” services offered by another state might be limited to fillings or exams. Or, it might place a limit on the dollar amount for some services or require pre-approval.

Some states offer only emergency services. Each state also has their own emergency procedures. While some might perform emergency dental work, others may not. Another option might involve emergency root canal procedures. Even though some insurance policies may not cover emergency root canal work, the medical practitioner will determine whether it is necessary for someone’s own medical needs.

Finally, Medicaid recipients in Alabama, Delaware Maryland, Tennessee and Tennessee are not eligible for dental services.

Many states do make an exception and provide dental care for people who are disabled, pregnant, or elderly with low-incomes.

No matter what state policy they follow, dentists are free to choose to see Medicaid patients. They can also choose to accept private or public insurance. This is why it can be so difficult to find a dentist who accepts Medicaid.

Our online tool is great for finding a local dentist. However, it can be difficult to find one that accepts Medicaid patients. If you are enrolled in Medicaid, follow these steps to find a dental professional.

I have been going to this place for the last 5 years. I have had many problems. They took care of them. The customer service, care, guidance and treatment I have got have been always extraordinary. Everyone is professional and dedicated to deliver the best. I am sorry, I don’t remember all the names of the wonderful staff. Some of the names of the wonderful team members I remember I would like to mention like : Dr. Bains, Alex, Anna and Rupa. A big thank you for all the years for the amazing service🙏 Keep up the great work. You all are amazing! – RIGHT PATH LEARNING
I have been going to Angel Care Dental since I was a young child… so quite a while 😉 and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The facility is beautiful, the care and gentle touch mean everything to me because I don’t like going to the dentist – who does? But it’s different here and I leave feeling genuinely happy. Mihaela is the BEST hygienist and Dr Galo is kind and extremely gentle. Even a root canal isn’t half bad with Dr Galo! Dr Soraya is also wonderful! Thanks Angel Care. ☺️ – Tara H
