I found an instance from Reddit a few years ago where the company – in this case, 23andMe – actually encouraged the customer to drop off the return USPS box at FedEx!

But there’s a catch: make sure you put your returns in FedEx dropboxes. These were back then, when FedEx Smartpost and USPS collaborated.

Smartpost will no longer be functional after FedEx ended their partnership in March 2021. They have rebranded FedEx Ground Economy, their local delivery service.

That means that even the SmartPost hubs, the packages’ last destinations before being handed over to USPS, are gone.

It is very probable that USPS returns cannot be sent via FedEx. Or, the return process will take longer because FedEx must turn over the parcel to USPS in a different manner.

FedEx Will Deliver USPS Mail Boxes

You may be asking if you can use an USPS mailbox to send via FedEx.

So long as USPS vestiges, such as labels or addresses, have been removed or covered, then yes.

FedEx will treat the USPS package as a FedEx shipment.

SurvivalFreedom.com says that no. There may have been very rare circumstances, according to anecdotal evidence.

FedEx is unlikely to ship a package that was intended for USPS, so I am unsure. While the two share some services, they otherwise operate individually.

It is also illegal for anybody other than the resident and the post carrier to fill any mailbox at any particular residence.

FedEx couriers aren’t going to be out there regularly committing federal crime.
