NFC (near-field communication) makes contactless payment easy and secure.
Apple and other companies rely on NFC for their Apple Pay technology. This allows iPhone users to make payments online with their Apple Wallet or at cash registers.
But does USPS take Apple Pay? Here’s the answer: You may be surprised.
Does USPS Take Apple Pay In 2022?
According to the United States Postal Service, Apple Pay is not accepted by them. Instead, the USPS restricts customers to using traditional methods of payment like cash and credit card. Current card readers support NFC but USPS still keeps this technology disabled.
What’s the deal with Apple Pay by USPS?
Although the USPS has not made any official statements about why Apple Pay isn’t accepted, there are theories among Redditors.
The USPS has access to sensitive information of millions of individuals. Additionally, as a federal agency, its regulations are quite strict.
It could be the reason why post offices do not accept Near-Field Communication (NFC), such as Apple Pay.
This was also confirmed by the fact that, despite their being fully equipped for Apple Pay/NFC, my local credit card machine processed only basic debit card transactions at a remarkably slow pace.
Because of its high-speed machinery and federal status, it’s not surprising that Apple Pay has been rejected by USPS.
What Forms Of Payment Does USPS Take?
Even though there are no cutting-edge payment methods available, USPS will accept many other types of payments in their post offices. They include:
You can take your personal checkbook to one of the few remaining locations that accepts them.
Does USPS Take Samsung Pay?
Strangely, while Apple Pay may not be accepted in certain locations, other post offices accept Samsung Pay as well.
Some customers also report more recent kiosks in post offices. Samsung Pay users with any of these cards tied to their accounts have been allowed to use the above cards.
While contactless payments are not offered by the majority of post offices, it is possible.
Apple Pay does not currently work in these stores. Rather, Samsung phone users can pay with Samsung Pay.
Additionally, it seems that the clerks are caught off guard when Samsung Pay works.
One Redditor did comment that they had to enter their PIN and sign.
NFC can work but isn’t 100% “contactless”. You must use the pinpad or pen.
And another commenter ran into a bit of resistance when they successfully used contactless pay – the manager informed them it was against “company policy” to accept any smartphone payment method.
Perhaps they forgot to turn off NFC at their location.
Can You Pay USPS With PayPal?
USPS announced, in June 2012, that PayPal and PayPal would allow customers to pay online.
The payment method is available only online, using USPS’s Click-N-Ship service.
Customers love this feature as it allows them to transfer funds without having to carry their credit cards.
Additionally, using PayPal to check out bypasses inputting an entire card’s-worth of financial information into the USPS website.
It was an easy way for customers to pay for goods or services, since many online store owners use PayPal.
