Everything starts with the basics
V15 Detect’s powerful suction is its best feature. It was easy with the older Direct Drive power head Dyson stick vacussors, which were a DC59 (aka The V6) and an now five-year old V8. But since taking on the V15 Detect for review, I’ve been shocked by the amount of pet hair and deeply embedded grit, mites, moth eggs, and pollen I see in its canister immediately after running one of my older Dysons over the same zone. This allergy season, I swear that I feel better.

It’s not a new feature in V15 Detect’s canister emptying. This was originally spotted in V10, V11 and the huge-capacity Outsize product lines. But it’s been refined. You’ll be glad to know that this checklist item will help you convince older Dyson sticks users to say “time to upgrade!” Dustbin dumping is now a super-quick, totally hands-off operation.
Within five minutes, anyone who has ever owned a bulky, awkward standup or canister vacuum machine will find a reason to switch. Who needs power cords and hoses that limit maneuverability and can literally trip you up? Dyson’s cordless stick-vacs have proven so reliable that they are no longer being refined.

Dyson V15 Detect Feature Set
V15 Detect’s newest feature is a laser light attached to the front end of the motorized barefloor Slim Fluffy Brush head. This light illuminates dust that is otherwise inaccessible and encourages sleep-deprived people to clean at night. While it did not seem to affect the battery’s life expectancy, it can be switched on and out quickly.
The motorized carpet and furniture brushes have had some refinements to stop carpet threads and hair tangling on the rollers. They performed well, but I must point out that the open-ended, conical Hair Screw upholstery brush adds some rattling and noise to an otherwise quiet operation. There are some issues with the High Torque’s retractable head combs. Although these teeth are not found on the older Dysons power heads, they do “part” carpet fibers but may also pull them out inadvertently. The same is true of the device’s beater brush.
An LCD display at the back shows the vacuum’s current particle-pickup performance. This can be quite an exciting sight. Dyson explained that the piezosensor not only measures how dusty the vacuum picks up but it also counts them so the cleaner can adjust the amount of suction to suit the cleaning job. This display allows you to manually change the vac’s mode, from Boost to Auto or Eco. You can also monitor how much battery life is remaining.

However, the V15 Detect was rarely used in Auto mode by me during this review. This is because the High Torque Head and sensor don’t seem to work with certain of my high-pile, handcrafted wool rugs. Strangely, the machine would shift to maximum boost mode and crank up the motor revolutions (maximum 125,000 rpm) until the carpet head was attached to the rug.
Does the Dyson V15 make a good investment?
Although it might cause sticker shock, the Dyson V15 Detect has a stronger suction force than its predecessors. It also comes with lots more useful accessories like a laser-equipped cleaner that reveals dirt you would not otherwise see. This makes it the perfect cordless stick vacuum for cleaning freaks. Which Dyson V15 Do You Think Is The Best?
Dyson V15 Absolute is the best cordless vacuum available right now. The V15 Detect Absolute cordless vacuum is expensive. However, if you are willing to sacrifice some features for a cleaner, then you could still get a V11 (PS500 or V10) and have a similar clean.
