Affordable, long-term printing

Aside from Canon’s MegaTank brand AIOs, Epson’s EcoTank models deliver the lowest running costs in the printer business. With the ET-2760, you get enough ink in the box to print up to 7,500 black pages or 6,000 color pages. When it comes time to buy replacement bottles, each of the four colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) run less than $20 each, and the actual cost per page comes out to less than 1 cent (0.3 cent monochrome and 0.9 cent color).

Canon’s MegaTank-AIOs from Canon, such as the Pixma G6020 recently reviewed, are similar in running costs. Brother’s INKvestment Tank models (which include the MFC–J805DW discussed throughout), deliver lower costs for black pages than for color and less than 1 cent each for color.

The HP Premier includes a one-year subscription for $10 per month to the Instant Ink program. You can get 300 pages per month for a flat 3.5c per page. Additional 25 pages cost $1. The benefit of Instant Ink is that, once the subscription runs out and you’re paying the monthly subscription fee, that 3.5 cents is the cost for any page, whether it’s a text page with 20 percent coverage or a letter-size borderless photo with 100 percent coverage.

This is our review of the Epson Ecotank Et-2760 Supertank Printer.

This has been awhile since I’ve reviewed a printer. I feel like we live in an era where having a printer isn’t really required, as we are moving toward a more paperless society. These ink cartridges are no longer on sale at any retailer. I must admit, that the Epson EcoTank ET-2760 has been a reliable companion and printer in my household.

The first thing that I want to say about the Epson EcoTank ET-2720 is how easy it was to set up. Do you remember how to connect your printers and computer? For that, there isn’t even an Ethernet port. The only thing I had to do was connect it and configure it with my Wi Fi network. This was actually the hardest part, as I had to manually enter my password using arrow keys. Although it took some effort, both my smartphone (and my laptop) were connected to my WiFi network and were able print right away.

This Epson EcoTank ET-2760 is also a great option because it has a cartridge-free design. It comes with these ink bottles that claim they can save you more than 90 percent! These bottles can be used in a variety of ways, and I’m not sure if that’s true. Simply open the printed page and add the blue, yellow, red and red. They are 40.99 each and have an excellent airtight seal. A few times I printed jobs and found it to be about 1 cent each page.

Epson EcoTank ET-2760 works as a printer, with automatic 2-sided printing. There is also a scanner which can be used for copying. The memory card slot allows for quick scanning and can be taken with you. This device also allows voice-activated printing.

There was one issue. While I stated earlier that I could hook up my laptop and smartphone to the Epson EcoTank ET-2760 for print jobs quickly, other members of my household couldn’t. However, I know it can be solved. It’s just weird.

Is The Epson Ecotank Et-2760 Worth It?

Don’t worry about ink again! Epson EcoTank ET-2760 printer is the right choice. It’s environmentally friendly and because of the ink docks, very easy to refill.

Although I didn’t find the colours to be as bright, I still liked the image quality and speed of the printing. Black printing was very speedy, and the Wi-Fi connectivity was easy to set up and stayed connected.

The size of the display didn’t bother me because I relied on the app and my computer to print for the most part. It was easy to make copies using the app.

The Economics of Ecotank Printing

Others may feel that handling ink bottles can be too cumbersome. Our suspicions were also raised. There was concern about liquid inks, spillages, and the like. Although the Epson ET-2760 setup took us a little longer than an ink cartridge printer, we found it to be much simpler and more efficient than expected. The EcoTank’s economics are what really impressed us.

Epson boasts that their EcoTank printers come with two-years of ink in the box. They don’t have any idea how much printing someone will need, so this is just an average.

The difference in cost between ecoTank and ink cartridges is quite striking.

Below is an actual example.

We previously reviewed the Epson Expression XP 6000 printer in April. Read our review. This printer uses Epson 302 standard and 302XL ink cartridges.

According to Epson documentation, each 302 Black cartridge can print approximately 250 pages while the 302 Color cartridges will print around 300 pages. The high-capacity XL cartridges are capable of printing approximately 550 pages black and 650 colour pages. Epson didn’t list the yields of the photo black cartridge for its XP6000 printer.

Epson offers information about measuring ink yields. You can find out more on the Epson website. Epson also recommends using their ink to ensure you get the most from your printer. For the purposes of our comparison, we are only looking at Epson ink.

The bottom line

We first encountered the EcoTank series with Epson ET-2760 Printer. This printer also marks our introduction into the world of liquid inks. We were initially skeptical but soon became a fan.

Although the EcoTank printer line is more costly than other cartridge printers, it’s offset by the low cost per page.

Epson’s large ink tank tanks are so big that they can store so much ink. We see how Epson is able to guarantee 2-years worth of ink. EcoTank’s simplicity and economics are the main selling points for people who use a lot to print.

You will need to consider whether the additional cost of up-front printing is worthwhile if you only print a small amount. It is clear that we prefer EcoTank over the traditional cartridge-type printers. However, we will have to watch how EcoTank holds up when it gets low use. Amazon sells the Epson ET-2760 for a considerable discount, but it has a MSRP at $299.00.

Check out the ET-2720 for those who prefer a smaller printer.

There are other options for models with automatic document feeders.

The Epson team is to be thanked for sending us an ET-2760 printer to review and test.
