The reason being that, even though I’ve been away from home for the pandemic and have had plenty of uninterrupted time to really explore this machine and its potential capabilities. This machine has been more than just a test drive. I have had the chance to put it through its paces. What I learned and my experience are what I would like to share with others.
Janome has a high standard of quality, so I was expecting to see it when I visited their headquarters last July to test the machine. Janome’s Memory Craft15000 and Horizon 9450 QCP had been making quilts for me over three years. I also used them to make many other types of sewing and embroidery projects. To be frank, these two machines were so close that it was almost impossible for me to imagine another. So, I was admittedly a teensy bit resistant as I flew to the Janome headquarters in NJ to meet the “new kid on the block” because I was quite convinced I already had the equivalent of sewing machine perfection back home in my studio. I can assure you that those machines are still perfectly functional and in use in mine today.
However, I wasn’t prepared for the many innovative features of the Continental M7. The sheer size and beauty of the Continental M7 was a shock to me when I arrived in the room. This domestic machine boasts the widest open throat space on any sitting-down machine. It has more than 13 feet of room between the needle end and the arm, which is significantly more than most other machines. The machine itself is very sturdy, and it’s sleek. I had high expectations for Janome’s machines, and they were.
The machine was turned on and I threaded the needle easily using the one-button smooth-path system. Most impressive! I immediately noticed an unobstructed view with nearly 4 feet above the needle. Nothing can block your vision! It was a delightfully unorthodox design detail.
It is located strategically for ease of access and is 7 inches high in color. The interface makes it easy for beginners to sew. This means that the buttons and icons on the touch-screen screen are intuitive for almost everyone. Even though the instruction manual is useful as a guideline, you might not need it in order to interpret commands or use the features. The machine can be used by a true beginner without feeling intimidated.
When I began testing different stitches, it whirred quietly like the fine-tuned machine it is. What about the stitch quality? The stitch quality is amazing.
