Performance

I love the look and off-road performance of an M/T, but since the Montero is my daily driver, I needed something quiet enough to make long trips bearable, and the R/T has fit the bill. The R/T is comfortable to cruise at 65 mph without vibration or excessive noise and it has clear tracking that avoids wandering. Because the tire weighs 59.96lbs, it has a minimal effect on fuel economy. It is lighter than 10-ply tires, at a 285/70/17 weight. Although wet weather can be a challenging environment for aggressive off road tires, I found the KR601 to be surprisingly responsive and able, even under heavy cornering and braking. Given my location in the Pacific Northwest, this is an important trait.

I’m very pleased with the on-road performance of the tires, but the Klever RT’s ability to perform off the pavement has made me even happier. The same feeling of security I gained on the road has been translated into comfort and a pleasant ride experience on the dirt. Since mounting the R/Ts, they have seen just about every condition possible in North America, taking on Oregon’s sand dunes, muddy two-tracks, rocky trails, and unexpected snowstorms. These tires showed that they can grip all terrains and also have the ability to maintain grip as they clear out snow, dirt, and mud from their treads. They were not able to eliminate gravel and stones as well between the tread blocks. You can see this by clicking on the asphalt when you return to pavement.

The aggressive 3-ply, triple-threat sidewall proved itself when crawling amidst a stretch of Central Oregon lava rock on trails earlier this summer. It has been a major confidence boost knowing they can hold up against the roughest terrain thrown at them.

The overall quality of this tire set was excellent, but Kenda lacks a variety of sizes options. Right now, available sizes range from 29-35 inches, but sizing options for 15- and 16-inch rim sizes are missing. It would make sense to offer smaller 35-inch options in today’s market. Kenda’s retailer reach will increase, as would their size options in this tire.

The tires have been long-lasting and balanced well at every rotation. However, I am beginning to feel a vibration at highway speeds.

Kenda Klever R/T Kr601 Tire Review & Rating

Kenda KleverR/T KR601 was launched in 2018 and is the latest all-terrain tire. It has been designed for increased performance as well as durability. Klever R/T (Rough Terrain), a tire that can be used on light trucks or SUV’s is designed to fit between an AT-MT tire. Kenda describes it as an extremely all-terrain tires.

Kenda employs a harder-cutting and more resistant to chip all-weather compound for their T3 Triple Threat sidewall. Kenda claims that the new sidewall will enable tires to handle rough terrain, without sacrificing ride quality or comfort.

Upper sidewall tread blocks help with traction in deeper mud, as well as gravel and sand. This tire also features snow performance by Kenda engineers. In winter, the all-weather compound is a winner. They have also pinned the tread for adding studs if you need the extra traction in severe conditions.

Does the Kenda Klever RO Loud?

Although the Kever RT may not be silent for its size, it’s still quite quiet considering the tire type. To reduce road noise, the aggressive tread pattern was computer-optimized and gives you a tire that is more like an all-terrain.

Are the Kenda Klever RTS Good for Snow?

KleverRT has a very aggressive tread pattern with lots of void space. This gives it good grip even in deep snow. But, because it’s not winter-certified, the tread can freeze to the ground in cold weather. It loses much of its grip once this happens. Optional studs can be fitted to the tread to transform it into a much-more capable winter option.
