PING First Impressions/Looks The G410’s are advertised by PING as being closer to a players club profile than their other game-improvement irons. This is the most desirable iron design, as many love the GI irons’ features but can not accept the higher profile. Let’s face it, hit most any of these new technology irons on the “screws” and they perform. Most of us are just mortals and the problem is finding that spot where we can hit strike after strike. It would be the ultimate goal if a player’s iron could have the same forgiveness as a SGI one, but still retain shot shaping capabilities, that would be the Holy Grail. But, like most things in physics, there are limits which restrict that design. But, that doesn’t mean that manufacturers can’t achieve that perfect combination. That is good news for us as consumers.
Interestingly, most of my newer GI (and player) irons are bigger than the PE2’s. Personally, I prefer a compact design. Based on the dozen of GI irons that I examined during my search, I found them (and the G400) to be the smallest, yet still more compact than the ones I had been using for 30+ years. Let’s compare them side-by-side. It’s not surprising that many of them said something like “dang, could you take a load of those PE2” as they hit the streets. I’ll bet many newer forged PI’s aren’t much smaller.
A second claim states that the G410’s blade is 10% shorter than the G400 and has a lower offset.
Two weeks ago, I held the pair together in Dicks Sports and found that they looked almost identical. The wife also told me she could see any differences. The numbers may be there to back this assertion but they appear the exact same. What is cool is that the G410’s have increased MOI by 8% while making it smaller than the G400. The MOI is generally higher, which helps clubs to forgive off-center strikes. Toe and hosel tungsten weighs allow for greater perimeter weighting. “Weight savings are concentrated in the toe and hosel to increase MOI 8%…”
From a top line visual, they look great. The bag has a minimal amount of offset and a thin top edge, giving the much-coveted forged blades an advantage. Although they look great in the bag, the GI category irons are not as sharp and sleek as the Rapture or GMax. I find the satin “hydroperal 2.0”, with its contrast-milled face, very attractive. Their users and PING are reporting an improvement in wearability over their original version that had staining issues. I inquired with PING about the change to the 2.0 finish and they confirmed the change was principally to address issues with version 1.0. While the notched neck may be popular in many modern irons, I find it odd. These notches are either cosmetic in nature or serve a purpose (e.g. lie adjustment). The rear badging in the red and black colors match the G410 woods. PING has chosen the colors I was just noticing. PING’s marketing staff was determined to convey the message, even though he isn’t using their products. Like the G400 this iron has a co-molded badge made of aluminum and elastomer that, along with cosmetics, helps to dampen vibrations.
It is necessary to adjust, just like with any iron change. After playing one set for over 30 years, in my case, a BIG adjustment. Now I am able to go back and do more ranges, going through all the sets. These results have been quite impressive. The 4i-6i has given me a 1.3x increase in carry distance, and the shorter irons a 1.1x. It appears my dispersion is about the same as my PE2’s (on good hits) which were always fairly tight. What I did notice was that my mishits with G410s were more forgiving than advertised. I’m still hitting more towards the toe than I’d like, so I’m probably not getting everything from the “Core-Eye” design that I could. This is one of the most significant things I have noticed about my new irons: a larger range in flush hits and distance for non-flush shots. This could prove problematic on the course . Minor swing changes are being made to bring the ball’s strike area closer to center.
Are Ping G410-irons worth it?
It’s the most forgiving iron of its size. You will find it appealing to a wide variety of golfers, as it provides faster ball speeds, more forgiveness, amazing feel, and an attractive appearance. This gives them all they need to make their shots go further, farther, and straighter. January 11, 2021

Do Ping Irons G410 Work Well for Beginners?
